JK BMS App Alternative: Change Settings from Your PC or Browser

The easiest JK BMS app alternative is a browser. Open JK Preset Studio in Chrome or Edge on a Windows, Mac, ChromeOS or Android device, press Connect BMS, and you can read, edit and write every setting over Bluetooth without installing anything. If you need a wired connection instead, the JK BMS Monitor PC software works over an RS485 to USB adapter, and ESPHome is the choice for permanent monitoring in Home Assistant.

Why people look for another JK BMS app

The official JK app does its job, but these complaints come up again and again in forums:

  • No PC version. The app runs on phones only, so you cannot change settings from a laptop next to the battery without extra hardware.
  • APK hunting. On Android many people download the app as an APK from third-party sites, and ask for an old version because a new one changed the layout or broke their model.
  • Sending failure. Importing a settings file or changing a value often ends in "Sending failure" with no hint which setting the BMS refused. Our Sending failure guide explains why.
  • Little help with values. The app shows dozens of fields with short names like OVPR or RCV and no recommended ranges for your cell chemistry.
  • No history. You see live values, but you cannot keep a recording or compare a log with your settings.

JK BMS Monitor for Windows

The JK BMS Monitor is the manufacturer's PC tool. It talks to the BMS over RS485, so you need a USB adapter and the right cable for your board. It is also the tool used to update firmware. It is a good fit if the battery sits in a cabinet with a PC nearby, less so for a quick change.

ESPHome and Home Assistant

The open source esphome-jk-bms project turns an ESP32 into a permanent bridge between the BMS and Home Assistant. It is the best option for dashboards and automations that run day and night. It needs hardware, a firmware build and some YAML, and it is not meant for editing a whole configuration at once.

JK Preset Studio in the browser

JK Preset Studio connects through Web Bluetooth, the same radio the phone app uses. It reads the full configuration, explains every parameter with a recommended range for LiFePO4, NMC or LTO, and writes your changes back. It is free and runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded.

What the browser does that the app does not

  • Writes in a safe order. The firmware checks each new value against the values it holds at that moment, which is where most Sending failure errors come from. The editor splits your changes into steps that pass in any order, then reads the BMS back after each step. The Bluetooth guide shows the process.
  • Tells you which setting failed. If the BMS refuses a value, writing stops and you see the setting and the value the BMS holds now.
  • Knows your model. Right after connecting it checks which optional settings your board really has, and marks the rest as missing instead of letting a write fail.
  • Checks values before writing. Rules like OVPR below SOC-100% voltage below RCV are checked as you type, and ready presets give you a safe starting point.
  • Keeps a backup. The write dialog lets you download the current settings as a .jkcfg file before anything changes, the same format the JK app exports. See the export and import guide.
  • Shows the pack live. The live monitor records cell voltages, current and temperatures, and the log analysis explains the Detail Log export from the app.

When to keep the JK app

The browser does not replace everything. Keep the app, or the PC software, when:

  • you use an iPhone or iPad, since no browser on iOS supports Web Bluetooth;
  • you want to update firmware;
  • you need a setting the editor treats as file only, such as the device name or passcodes;
  • you need a permanent link, which is a job for ESPHome.

You can also mix them: change settings in the browser, close it, and keep using the app to glance at the pack.

How to switch in two minutes

  1. Close the JK app. The BMS accepts one Bluetooth connection at a time.
  2. Open the home page in Chrome or Edge and press Connect BMS.
  3. Pick your BMS from the list. Its name starts with JK.
  4. Edit values or apply a preset.
  5. Press Write to BMS, save the backup the dialog offers, then start the write and wait for the read-back check to finish.

FAQ

Is there a JK BMS app for Windows or Mac?

There is no desktop version of the JK phone app. On Windows you can use the JK BMS Monitor with an RS485 adapter. On Windows, Mac, and ChromeOS you can use JK Preset Studio in Chrome or Edge over Bluetooth, with no adapter and no install.

Is a third-party JK BMS app safe to use?

The editor writes only the settings you changed, in a safe order, and verifies every value afterwards. Wrong values can still harm your cells, so compare them with your cell datasheet and keep the backup it offers before writing.

Do I need the BMS password?

In our tests on firmware 19 the BMS accepted writes without the settings password, because the JK app checks it, not the BMS. The password guide covers the details and older firmware.

Does it work offline?

The page needs the internet to load. After that, reading and writing happen directly between your browser and the BMS, and your settings never leave your computer.

Connect your BMS and see every setting on your screen in a minute.
